Who Do You Think You Are?
Have you ever had the experience of being excited about an idea or goal you wanted to pursue, just to have someone say to you, "That won't work. Who do you think you are?"
That can be crushing. Especially if it comes from someone you respect. It is enough to cause you to shrink back and question yourself. You may even start to think they are right. If this happens to you, the first thing you must do is realize their comment is coming from a place of insecurity in themselves. It is the fact they could not see themselves following their own dreams or in some cases, the person simply does not want you to succeed. Yes, that sounds harsh, but it is a reality of life. Not everyone around you is cheering you on. Someone who does not want to lose control of you may try to sabotage your success by making you question your own abilities. This can be one of the most damaging things someone can do to your spirit if you let it.
You are who you choose to be
The only person who gets to decide who you are and what you are capable of is you. Yes, we take on lots of paradigms when we come into the world. Influences from family, teachers, friends all seam to take hold of us and we hang on tight to those. We think that is who we are because someone else has told us that. It's not true though. I am not saying it is easy to break out of these strongholds, but it is possible. If you look at anyone successful in what they have accomplished, there is always a diversity behind them. There were doubters and naysayers. But they knew who they were inside and did not let anyone take that away from them.
Right now you may be thinking to yourself, "But I don't know who I am". So here's a question for you to really think about. Who do you WANT to be? What is it you have always dreamed of? What stopped you? Why not make today the day you take that step, or resume the path and put something into action to get there?
You can be whoever you choose to be.
